Macy Hosts Talk Show Featuring Renowned Hypnotherapist
26 March 2011, Mutiara Damansara. Malaysians being night owls most of the time, need to capitalise on what little sleep they have. Being true believers of keeping life as balanced as possible, sleep is what Macy supports. Deep, peaceful sleep. Today, they provided the platform for a talk show titled “Helping Malaysians Sleep Better”, hosted by Jojo Struys, featuring renowned hypnotherapist Julian Leicester, actress and model, Stephanie Chai and social advocate James Chong. We all know the benefits of good sleep which allows the body and mind to recharge, rejuvenate and heal. A bad night of sleep often leaves us fatigued, stressed and in an overall bad mood. So, how to achieve deep, peaceful sleep? There are two main elements as discussed in today’s talk show. Mental calm and physical comfort.
Mental calm seems like something that is easy to achieve, yet many of us struggle with it. As Julian quipped, “The human subconscious is very resourceful, many of the tricks we play often get seen through, and the only way to achieve calm is by training the mind to do so.” Julian’s tips were a wake-up call to be more aware of the things
we don’t think of as being a deterrent to good sleep. These ranged from the simple, such as not drinking too much coffee in the day, to the more complex such as ensuring you keep your work space strictly separate from the sleeping area. He also taught the audiences that positivity is essential, and to change the thought, “I can’t sleep and I’m miserable”, to “I have to figure a way out, I choose to be calm”.

Other interesting pointers and techniques Julian added included:
Julian, utilising the Dave Elman hypnotherapy technique then did a live demonstration for the audience. The words used were simple suggestive instructions, which managed to put James into deep relaxation (as proven by Stephanie who was asked to lift his hand up and drop it, just to feel how relaxed he was), and after a mere few minutes, he was instructed to open his eyes. James looked bright eyed, and refreshed. When asked how it felt, James commented: “I was conscious the whole way through, but I was following Julian’s words which were asking me to relax, and so I did. I wasn’t doing anything I didn’t want to do, so I was comfortable with following his words. Even when he moved me into a sleeping position (I was originally in a seated position), there was no resistance, I did not assist at all in the
movement. Upon opening my eyes, I just felt fresh.”
“I don’t have too many problems sleeping as I’ve invested heavily in my bedroom. I have a really nice mattress (one with a pillow top) and a contour pillow, silky smooth bedsheets, and I even have blackout curtains. I also turn my phone off at night. That being said, there are often still many things on my mind as I run my own business, and I am glad to be here having this chat and learning from Julian!” exclaimed Stephanie, during the talk show.
Macy has always viewed ‘balance’ as one of the major components to a good nights sleep. Physical comfort in sleeping has much to do with which mattress is chosen. It is a very subjective process, hence trial and error is essential. It really boils down to ‘which do you like best’? Claims of being the most ‘posture-pedic’ bed only go so far,
if you don’t sleep well on it, then it is not right for you. As Choong Kar Weng, Executive Director of Macy explained “choosing a mattress is a very individual process, customers are welcome to lie on each of our sample mattresses to get a good feel for what suits them best. Some of our customers come back many times before they make a decision. Any mattress, being the body support for more than one third of our life, must be chosen well, and we encourage that.”
Macy Bedrooms features a number of respectable international brands, and carry three different price points for each brand. Macy’s aim is to help people beautify their homes without breaking their wallet; when an environment is pleasant, it is more conducive to lower stress levels and achieve a better standard of living. “Together, we’ll make it beautiful” is the essence of the tagline which applies to the entire Macy range.
