We often see this Chinese word during Chinese New Year, being displayed on homes, stores as well as streets and even fashion accessories. The word is pronounced as “fook” in Chinese and it means fortune.

We’re all guilty of it – accumulating useless junk we don’t need or use. It’s always good to declutter, especially at the beginning of the year. Decluttering home can be a positive and empowering action that will lead to more space, a renewed mind and energy. Our home is a reflection of ourselves. Start the year on a positive note! Here’s some tips to declutter:

Cupboards – Go through your kitchen cupboards one at a time and you’ll be surprised at what you can and should dispose.

Bookcases – Get rid of the old magazines, knick - knacks, papers or old book that no longer interest you.

Linen Closet - Towels, sheets and curtains need to be sorted out too. Throw the worn out ones!

Bedroom Closets – They say “ If you have not worn it in a year, it’s time to get rid of it”. If you don’t want to throw, how about donating it to the underprivileged.

Kids Room – Go through their clothes, throw or donate the ones that they have outgrown. Broken toys be thrown away. Toys that they have outgrown can be should given away.

Bathroom – We understand how cluttered and over flowing our vanity and medicine chests can get. Go through them, get rid of those that have hardened, softened, changed coloured or expired!

Organize – Get organized with storage boxes that can hold almost anything, from the small ones to the big ones.

Remove the unwanted – the thing about decluttering is to ACTUALLY remove the unwanted, not take every thing out and rearrange! Remember, as the saying goes, “If you don’t get rid of the old, the new ones won’t come”.

This is how our office looked like during the last Christmas. We were all soaked into the Festive mood which made working even more fun. Who would have thought a corporate office can look this festive!
